(Kyodo) _ Logs and torrents of mud that came thundering down within swollen rivers have swept away thousands of homes in remote villages in Indonesia's northernmost province of Aceh, killing about 52 people and leaving more than 400 missing, according to official estimates and eyewitness accounts.
Although the disaster struck last Friday and Saturday, information has just been trickling through over the last two days because the worst affected areas are far-flung villages in eastern parts of Aceh where some of Indonesia's poorest live -- areas which are difficult to reach by road.
