Who Are The Unions Really For?

No worker in this country deserves to be harassed on the job, herded around by armed federal agents, and detained miles away from their homes and families without representation just for showing up to work.
But that’s exactly what happened to workers in six cities last week, as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents dressed in riot gear stormed into Swift & Company meat packing facilities and arrested nearly 1,300 workers under the suspicion that they were undocumented.
Swift is an employer who has voluntarily participated in the Basic Pilot Program of employment verification, and as a result has brought the full force of our broken immigration system on its workers - both U.S. citizens and immigrants. While ICE continues to perform raids, it has done nothing to combat the real fraud and abuse of workers by employers who pay cash under the table, and avoid paying local, state and federal taxes, social security, and unemployment and workers compensation taxes. These raids only force more workers into the underground economy and illustrate the need for real comprehensive reform.

Hey these people are breaking the law being over here so they are criminals. I thought Unions were supposed to be looking out for the American workers.
